QT Line

The QT product line is a flagship product offering for our indoor transformer series. The QT enclosure is UL listed not just to be surface mounted but also to be recessed into a 2X4” stud wall, and is listed as an inherently protected IC rated fixture allowing all QT units to be recessed into a wall in direct contact with insulation and a zero clearance to clothing. Therefore the cover can be in direct contact with combustible materials including clothing.  The average efficiency of the QT product is over 95% providing for a very cool operating temperature, and allowing Q-Tran to have this very unique UL listing. All QT units come with universal mounting brackets (UMB), allowing the installer to either surface mount the enclosure, recess it into a wall with differing thickness drywalls or to suspension rod mount the product for above ceiling or open ceiling conditions. All QT units come standard with 3 safety devices built into the unit, secondary circuit protection (a requirement by UL2108 and NEC 411).

Additionally Q-Tran includes primary circuit protection and a thermal auto-resettable breaker built into the toroid to prevent overloading conditions.

All of the Q-Tran toroidal transformers are built in Q-Tran's factory in Connecticut allowing us to control the quality of materials, designs, equipment, and testing. Every single transformer is tested three times before it leaves our facility.  The materials that we use and the equipment that we have to manufacture the transformers allow us to make the most quiet transformer available in the lighting industry.  We have an anechoic chamber in our R&D lab allowing us to benchmark the noise levels of the different size toroids and improve upon them. The basic rule of thumb that acoustical engineers use is that quiet is between 25-30dB. Standard transformers operate over 40dB when dimmed, Q-Tran’s transformers operate around 23 when dimmed, lower than the bottom threshold parameters that acoustical engineers have defined.

All of the QT toroidal transformers come standard with multiple taps allowing the installer to compensate for voltage drop that will occur in any low voltage lighting system. The QT offers 5 taps, 11-15 or 22-30volts. Without this capability, the performance of the lamps will never allow the light that is expected out of the low voltage lamp. 12V= 100% light output, most transformers only provide 11.4V but additional losses incurred through the dimmer and over the voltage drop on the wire only provides around 10Volts to the lamp: 10Volts only allows the lamp 50% light output, Q-Tran’s multiple taps allow the installer to boost up the voltage providing between 11.4-12 volts to the lamps, or between 85-110% light!

The capacity of the QT units range from as small as a 150Watt transformer all the way up to a 1500Watt unit. All of the Q-Tran transformers can be fully loaded; you do NOT need to de-rate our product lines.  In addition to our single transformer offering we also have the ability to have multiple transformers inside of one enclosure, this allows the consolidation of transformer requirements into fewer enclosures, and this allows savings for installation and a material savings.
